I have always been a fan of backlit keyboards. It is there where I spend most of my time typing, and it surely deserves some attention. Not only that, but it helps me see better in dark rooms or dim light. While not all people are fans of backlit keyboards, I’m sure that the majority of you will agree with me on one thing: spending money on such keyboards is definitely worth it.
This article’s purpose isn’t to convince you that buying a keyboard with a backlighting feature will be the best idea ever. Instead, I want to show you which are currently the best budget-friendly keyboards that offer this kind of setting and a better typing experience overall. If you’re anything like me, then it would probably be wise to check out my list below. For your information, I have composed this list by taking into consideration features such as illumination options and value for money each of these has to offer. It doesn’t hurt to mention that majority of these keyboards come from reputable companies such as Corsair, Razer, or Logitech – brands who know how to make electronic devices.
Top 8 Best Budget Backlit Keyboard in 2022
Table of Contents
1. Logitech G213 Prodigy
This model from Logitech is a great tool for those who are looking for a cheap, yet quality backlit keyboard. As someone who’s been using it as my daily driver for a month or so now, I must say that it has a pretty strong build and even stronger features. It comes with support to 16.8 million colors which you can choose from three different lighting zones – the keys themselves, the letters on said keys, and lastly, the number pad. In addition to this, each zone has its own effect which ranges from breathing to solid colors. There are several modes that you can change by pressing certain key combinations but there is one mode called “game mode” where everything turns off except for the WASD and arrow keys. In addition to this, media controls are also present which is great if you need them from time to time. The only downside of this model is the lack of wrist rest but you can buy one separately or make do without one, I suppose.
2. Corsair K95 RGB Platinum
Corsair’s lineup has always led the way in regards to having top-notch products when it comes to gaming accessories and peripherals. This model here offers up 4 zone backlighting with 16.8 million colors that can be customized in virtually any way possible thanks to their software called CUE (you will need an internet connection for this). Besides illumination options, Corsair gives you 18 programmable macro keys, USB pass-through, and a dedicated volume roller. It’s also worth mentioning that they use high-quality materials for this model and it has a military-grade aluminum finish.
3. Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2
Razer is another household name in the gaming industry with several products to its credit. Their keyboards are definitely some of them which offer top-notch build design and reliable performance overall. This one here comes with individually backlit keys which allow you to choose from 16.8 million colors plus an additional 10 lighting effects such as ripple, reactive, starlight, aurora, etc. If that wasn’t enough for you then perhaps you will be interested in knowing that their new models come with a USB pass-through port, audio passthrough, and dedicated media controls.
4. Corsair K70 Rapidfire
The K70 is a classic from Corsair here with a modern twist. It’s not as flashy as the models above but it has everything that you might need from a keyboard in this price range. It even offers support for 16.8 million colors and comes with dedicated media keys, volume roller, USB pass-through port, and textured keycaps. In addition to these, you will also get 100% anti-ghosting along with its Cherry MX Speed switches which are now considered as one of the best switches on the market today.
5. Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum
This model from Logitech is among my favorite keyboards on the list thanks to their Romer G switches which provide me with tactile feedback, unlike any other switch I’ve tried in the past. The Logitech G910 comes with 9 dynamic lighting effects and comes with its very own software called ARX Control which allows you to control games, media, and even your PC wirelessly. It offers support for 16.8 million colors as well as dedicated media controls along with a mode where all keys except WASD turn off so you can easily find those during the heat of an intense battle.
6. Razer Ornata Chroma
I’m not actually sure that they consider this model as a mechanical keyboard but it does offer up their unique mecha-membrane switch which combines both membrane and mechanical styles into one amazing hybrid switch which is also 100% anti-ghosting just like most other models on this list. This one here also offers up 16.8 million colors along with Razer’s very own Chroma app where you can customize lighting effects, create macros, and so on. Their new models have included a wrist rest as well which makes it great if you are someone who types for long hours at a time without taking breaks.
7. Logitech G610 Orion Brown
For those of you looking for something more traditional then this Logitech G610 Orion Brown might be worth checking out. This one here is among the oldest mechanical keyboards that I have on the list but it still gets the job done like most modern-day models. It has customizable RGB backlighting which means that you can pick your color of choice or opt for breathing mode (my favorite). You will also get dedicated media controls that work with your favorite music player. In addition to these, you will also get 100% anti-ghosting along with 26-key rollover which should be enough for most situations.
8. Razer BlackWidow Ultimate
Yet another mechanical keyboard Razer BlackWidow Ultimate but this time it’s their older one, the BlackWidow Ultimate which might not have as many features as the Elite but it still has everything that you might need from a gaming keyboard at this moment in time. It offers up 50 million keystrokes and comes with 10 customizable macro keys plus tactile green switches that are quite similar to Cherry MX Blue ones. You will also get green backlighting which is good if you are into bright lights although I prefer red ones personally.
Conclusion
After taking a look at all of these models, I would recommend going with either Corsair K70, Razer Ornata Chroma, or Logitech G910 if you don’t want to go with traditional mechanical switches. However, if you are into that then check out the Corsair and Razer keyboards listed above since they both offer great performance. They also have options for those who don’t want to spend a lot of money on their keyboard.
